Roundbrand Results! 9/28/08 9 Hole Teams @ Lakewood

Our next round of the tourney on Sunday was another 9 Hole event at Lakewood.  Cathy joined us for this so we played with two teams of three.  My goal was to make this a tougher group of holes so we played 1-4, Long 5, 7, 12, 17 & 18.

This was a very consistent round with little spectacular outside of a sweet putt by Ethan on 7.  Weaver had a great tee shot on 17 as did Jonathan on 12.  All told this was won on a missed putt on 17.

Roundbrand Results! 9/28/08 Acepot @ Lakewood

I have decided to write three separate recaps of our weekend tournament rounds.  So today I will recap our Acepot game.

Upon arriving at Lakewood I was bummed to see that there was a bike race going on.  It was taking up holes 8-11 which meant I would have to rework my plan for the course.  My hope had been to play the 9 holes with the most Ace possibility, but since the only hole any Roundbrand player had ever Aced was now off the board we had to improvise.

They had moved the basket on 18 off of the parking island so we decided to add that and then we decided to come back and play Hole 1 a second time.  So we had Holes 1-3, 5, short 6, 7, old 11, 18 and then 1 again.

It was sadly a meager showing as bridal showers, trips back east, work, house painting and hangovers took a lot of players out of the equation.  We did have the top Roundbrand Regulars there though, so we were sure to have a good game.

That was until we teed off on Hole 1.  All 5 of us went in to the trees.  Jonathan went out of bounds.  I took 4 putts to get into the stupid basket.  It was an ugly start to be sure.  By the time we got to Hole 5 everyone seemed to settle down and start making better shots.

After that we made our way over to the incredibly short tee pad to Hole 6.  Weaver was in the lead so he shot first.  He calmly tossed a backhand shot that curved smoothly to the right, bounced off of the ground and into the basket.

After much high fiving and hollering I informed him that the game was not over.  We all still had a chance to match his feat.  In fact, it was my turn.  All I remember thinking was that there was no reason to be conservative.  I took my Discraft Surge and went hard at the basket. It took the perfect fade at the last second as it hit the chains and stuck.  We had only the 2nd and 3rd Aces ever in Roundbrand play on back to back shots.

We played the rest of the round seeing Jonathan and Ethan net some birdies, but the Acepot was won.

Roundbrand Results! 9/14/08

We had yet another incredibly competitive round on Sunday at Lakewood.  We had 7 players split into three teams and we almost had a 3 way tie.  Once again we failed to get anyone under par, but this was yet another incredibly consistent and solid round.

There were only two double bogeys on the day and the last one proved to be fatal.  Ethan and Kara went in to the final hole with a two stroke lead on both teams.  Their double bogey opened the door and Jonathan, Nani & Richard walked right in by getting par.  Weaver and I managed to both go out of bounds on our second shot giving us a bogey and taking away our chance to join in on a playoff.

Both teams parred the first playoff hole, but a bogey by Ethan and Kara took away the taste of victory on what was otherwise an incredible day.  By far they were the most consistent team on the day and Ethan had a round of putting that could only be called clutch.

Shots of the day were aplenty.  Jonathan had a drive on Hole 4 that was as close to the hole as I have ever seen.  Regrettably they were not able to finish the deal with a birdie.  However, Jonathan came back with an equally spectacular drive on Hole 5 and they did bury the birdie shot that time.  Possbly the most impressive shot was Jonathan’s drive on Hole 15.  He snaked his way past the trees and dropped his disc within 15 feet of the basket.  Once again they followed with a birdie that was crucial on the comeback to victory.

One more reminder to keep the 28th open for the first ever Roundbrand day of Tournament Disc Golf.  Players can join in for all 3 events or just for those that fit their wishes.

Here are the scores from Sunday.

Roundbrand Results! – 9/7/08

So we had 8 players show up for a lovely afternoon of Disc Golf at North Sea-Tac on Sunday.  As is always the case this course ate us up on the back 9.  After a fairly well played front 9 we all saw some ugly scores on the back.  All told this game was won by Cathy making some amazing 2nd shots on the front that gave us gimme putts.

Jonathan and Mikayla made a charge on the back 9 but were done in on Hole 17 by a wall of disc eating trees.  Shot of the day may well have been Linda’s putt on the very first hole.  Jonathan made some amazingly long drives on the back 9 also that were very impressive.

Here are the scores.

Best Roundbrand Round Ever?

So we played an inpromptu round of Disc Golf on Wednesday night at Lakewood.  Now, while no one went under par and there were only two birdies total, this was easily the most competitive and cleanly played game yet by the Roundbrand crew.  Due to a math error on my part we thought our three teams had finished two strokes apart when it was actually three, but the point remains.  This was as intense a game as we have ever played.

This game featured only one double bogey.  There were no really bad shots made the whole game.  The only thing that kept this from being epic was the poor putting all around.  We all left some birdies out there that very well could have made this even more compelling.  We were all even after 10 holes until Weaver and Ethan buried the first birdie of the day.  They held steady after that and closed it out with a birdie on 18.  Weaver made an amazing shot all the way up the hill and next to the basket off of the tee.

I very much look forward to more games like this where the true competitive juices get flowing.  I loved every minute of it.  Even the pain of finishing last.

Roundbrand Results! 8/24/08 @ White River

So we had eight of us turn out on Sunday for a round of Disc Golf at White River.  Mother nature decided to soak us a bit, but it really wasn’t that bad since it helped keep us cool.  However, playing conditions were not the best because of it.  Small children running off with your disc also makes knowing where to take your next shot from a bit of a challenge.  All told though this was a well played round with tight scores from top to bottom.

Weaver brought his uncle Rick out to play for the first time and he was a quick study.  He helped Jonathan to a close second place finish.  If not for a few too many bogeys they might have won, but Weaver and Linda had the more steady hand.  The only double bogey of the day dropped Ethan and Dean a shot behind Cathy and myself in what was a close battle for last.

Shots of the day from what I saw were Jonathan nearly making a hole in one on both #1 and #10.  Scores are below.

Roundbrand Results! 8/10/08 @ Lakewood

It has been  one of those weeks where taking time to pose as a blogger just has not existed.  Long story short, Weaver, Dean and Linda teamed to shoot a 59 on Sunday at Lakewood.  They were very consistent all day.  No birdies, but no double bogeys either.  Weaver had a rescue shot on 11 that snuck through the trees and dropped right at the basket.

Richard and I teamed to shoot a 63.  We had two birdies and also two double bogeys.  A little too inconsistent to rule the day, but some very nice shots mixed in there.

No round this weekend as some dude has a Birthday Party on Sunday.

Roundbrand Results! 8/3/08 @ North Sea-Tac

Well we had the Chicquette clan out for a round at North Sea-Tac on Sunday.  We played our shorter tees and it did help the scores.  Some of the holes it is difficult to find a nice surface to shoot from, but both of our teams did manage two Birdies on the day which is unheard of at this course.  At the end of the day Dean and Jeff walked away with a 65 and Jonathan and Linda had a 66.  It was a gorgeous day to be out on the course and since Dean had his Roc returned already there were thankfully no lost discs.

I hope to add the scores on later.

Roundbrand Results! 7/20/08 @ Terrace Creek

I am not going to waste much time on this one because the Roundbrand Regulars made their voices heard loud and clear.  Terrace Creek sucks.  Yep, I said it.  It makes North Sea-Tac look well taken care of.  It has some crappy beat up targets.  Some of the holes are fun and interesting, but for the most part it is a pain in the butt.  Maybe it is great for pros to play, but we are not pros.  This is recreation for us.  The elevation changes on some of the holes were dangerous and it ate three of our discs.  Of course, North Sea-Tac can do that too.  We did get to introduce the game to my co-worker Chris and his son Adrian which was cool, but other than that it was a less than fun round.

Here are the scores.
