I need your feedback disc golfers.  We here at Roundbrand want to team with Chainbanger’z do a trial run this summer of a disc golf league and I need some help to get the ball rolling.  The basic goal is to create an opportunity for amateurs to get out and compete at disc golf without being run over by all the local pros.

To help with this each player will be given a handicap to level the playing field.  Players can create their own team or be assigned to one.  Format is as of yet to be determined, but we are planning a 10 week run where your team plays once a week on the same day each week.  For now I just need a few answers from everyone.

Would playing in a 10 week Disc Golf League appeal to you?

What two days of the week would you prefer to play on?

Would you be open to playing in more than one league?

Reply here and if you are not a regular reader put us in your feed so you can be up to date when we launch in July.

Thanks!

As you know i play in a dart league and i thought i would share a little about how that system works in case you want to pilfer ideas.

    Players have ratings not handicaps

A team (of 2 or 3) would have a max team rating so if a beginner team would have a max rating of 5 it
could be a 2 2 1 or a 311. This allows you to have more flexibility when creating teams.

There is what they call a rolling rating which is what your rating would be if you started a new league today and the rolling rating is what is used to determine handicaps for the final match(s) in darts we have playoffs and state. Your rolling rating becomes your new rating after the league ends.

A difference in team rating results in so many strokes being taken off the lower ranked team’s score.

    Each team has a captain.

Each week one team is “home” and one team is “away”

    The home captain keeps score

The away captain signs off on the score and reports it to the league

    there are 6 team divisions

the best record from each division gets a bye through the playoffs and goes directly to state

the second best record in each division gets a bye through the first round in the playoff

the playoff winner goes to state

Teams can shoot in any order to start but must keep that order after the start

the team that lost the previous game (hole) goes first next…although for golf that should be switched since the advantage is to go second.

I’m a rookie that has been just getting into the sport. The opportunity to play some rounds with other golfers without the heavy pro competition sounds great.

    1) Yes
    2) One weekday night/week is doable
    3) Just one league for me.

  9. I have run a handicap series in the past and yes we are interested in an AM type league in Spokane. I had a programmer friend modify the SFDGC’s handicap sheet to figure the handicap out for a person based on the best 80% of his reported rounds. In effect it throws out 20% of a tracked persons rounds and then figures his handicap at 90% of his average score.

  10. Jason says:

    1. Yes

    2. Any day except Monday and Wednesday. After 5 pm during the work week would be great.

    3. Mutliple leagues would be a possibility.

Say Something!
