So after shelving Roundbrand for the better part of the past calendar year I believe it is time to get things going here again but in a bit of a different format. Rather than discuss what Roundbrand has been in the past, I want to just dive into what I want it to be going forward. It will continue partly as a place for people to see the schedule of upcoming games each week, but we will also be trying to get some more competitions going. We have been playing a ton of very close and well shot games lately and some of these rounds have deserved a bit of a spotlight too which means the occasional recap will be making a return.

Now rather than all of our games just being casual group affairs where we always play mixed doubles, we want to get more head to head games and serious solo rounds going also. The casual mixed doubles games will still happen but just not as often.

To kick the 2010 competition off I want to propose a Roundbrand Bag Tag Challenge. I will need input to find a good date to kick it off, so let me know what works for all of you. Rules are below.

Rules of the Roundbrand Bag Tag Challenge

1. Conduct
a. Yes you can talk smack but don’t be a dick. Yes drinking and smoking are allowed.
b. Challenges need to be accepted in order for the series to work for everyone.
c. Challenges are to be made by choosing times and courses that are okayed by the person being challenged.
d. Each player must have his or her tag at the beginning of the challenge.
e. Players are to participate in at least eight (8) challenges throughout the 4 month season.
f. Players are to have challenges with at least five (5) different players.
g. Players not abiding by the rules are subject to discipline.

2. Discipline
a. Players found not abiding by the rules are subject to having a new tag issued using the lowest tag number available.
b. Not having your tag at a challenge will constitute refusing a challenge and be considered a forfeit.

3. Ranking
a. All players will be ranked from 1-? based on a 27 hole kickoff tournament at North Sea-Tac Park. Players are allowed to join the challenge even if they miss the first tournament, but they will receive the lowest tag available.
b. Players can move up or down during the challenge based on results of head-to-head challenges.
c. Final rankings to be determined by a final tournament (time and date TBD). Players will be split into foursomes based on ranking. Then final placement will be determined by performance against the other three players in that foursome.

4. Challenges
a. Challenges will be made by challenging up in rank.
b. The player who gets challenged will give the challenger some dates he can make within a 2 week period to get the match completed or lose his ranking (tag). If the original challenger cannot make the dates given the challenge is void and both players can look for new challenges. Not showing up for a match results in a forfeit. (20 minute leeway)
c. A player may only participate in one challenge at a time. Group challenges are for 3 to 4 players max in one group and tags are redistributed at the end of round per rules listed below in 6.
d. The higher ranked player may refuse to accept a challenge if and only if
i. He or she has beaten the challenger within the last two weeks, and;
ii. Neither the challenger nor the higher player has participated in another challenge since their last meeting.
e. Level of Challenges
i. You can challenge up as many spots as desired for the first two months of the 4 month challenge.(Example: #30 can challenge #1).
ii. After two months you can challenge someone within 3 spots of your current ranking.
f. Cost
If the challenger loses to a player with 1, 2 or 3 the losing challenger pays $5.00 to the winner.
If the challenger loses to a player with 4, 5, or 6 the losing challenger pays $3.00 to the winner.
If the challenger loses to a player with 7 or higher the losing challenger pays $1.00 to the winner.
You must have tag and money/barter at a challenge. No IOU’s
The player who is challenged never pays. If you challenge and tie you pay.
h. You may challenge a player at any time. The course to be from the list of three that the player being challeneged has listed as preferred. See below in 6. Other courses are acceptable if both parties agree. Format to be decided on between players before teeing off.

5. Lost Tag
a. When a tag is declared lost, it becomes ineligible for prizes.
b. A new tag number can be issued for a fee of $5.00 and that player takes the lowest tag # available.

6. Cost, Course Choices, Multiple Player Challenges
a. The initial fee to play the first tournament or to get your first tag is $10.00.
b. Each player will submit the names of three preferred courses when they are issued their tags. When that player is challenged the challenger must pick a course from that list of three. Roundbrand approved courses for this Bag Tag Challenge are: Terrace Creek, Northpark, Lakewood Park, North Sea-Tac Park, Lake Fenwick Park and White River.
c. In a multi player challenge during the first two months all tags are redistributed by the order of finish on that day. In the event of a tie the lower # coming in wins. In the final two months a player can only challenge a player who is a maximum of three rankings spots above them. So multi player challenges must be kept to players who are all within 3 spots of each other.

7. Conclusion
a. Contest will start at some point in January and end on or around May 31st, 2010. Exact dates of beginning and ending tournaments still to be determined.
b. Chainbangers gift cards to top 3 players.

Challenge staus and rankings will be updated regularly on the website.

These rules were plagiarized and amended from the Huntongton Bag Tag rules.

“Roundbrand Rebooted and Where We Go From Here”

  1. Eric says:

I am all for it! My schedule changes frequently so I can’t put any input into it right now.

  2. Jeff says:

We will have to try and find a good day for the kickoff tourney that will accommodate everyone. The nice part after that is you only need to align your schedule with whoever you are playing a challenge against.

  3. Jonathan says:

My two cents: Saturday January 23rd. Where are we getting our Bag Tags from?

  4. Jeff says:

I will make the tags. The 23rd would be this upcoming Saturday so we would need to move quickly. Let me start bugging folks to see who is in.

  5. Jules Park says:

Sounds cool, I could benefit from some clarification on some questions I have…we can do that face to face.
This Sat. is good, but I might have plans…Next weekend would be better, but I am out of town.
Hmmm…Let me know how this weekend is shaping up for everyone else. Thx.

  6. Great idea Jeff; not sure how much I can participate since I work weekends and have only been able to play at night lately.

  7. Jeff says:

Well, it looks like Weaver may end up missing the initial round also. You can still buy in after that, you just end up with the lowest available ranking and have to play your way up.

Say Something!
