Disc Golf Round 11/2/08 @ Lakewood

I mentioned trying something a little different in our games.  Well, this weekend we play a round at Lakewood on Sunday.  Tee time will be 11am.  We will not be playing teams this time.  Come ready to play a round of singles and also be prepared to get wet.

Also, remember that Saturday night Daylight Savings ends.  So if you forget to turn your clock back you will show up an hour early.

Roundbrand Results! 10/26/08 @ White River

What a beautiful day we had for Disc Golf on Sunday at White River.  It was so nice we played it twice, and then some.  I’m not sure how everyone else felt yesterday, but my arm was sore.

We had two really well played games and the second was so well played we finally had to accept it as a tie.  The scores below show an impressive amount of pars and birdies, but most of all hardly any bogies.  Simply put, this was the best day for the Roundbrand Regulars since July.

Shot of the day?  Too many to count.  Jonathan almost got a hole in one on the first hole, THREE times.  It was simply incredible to watch how precise his shot was on that hole.  I buried an 80 foot birdie shot on 18 that tied the second game up.  Mikayla was whipping some long shots like I have never seen before.  Cathy carried Dean for the front 9 of the first round.  Richard and Linda played a great back 9 for the first round.  All told, everyone was throwing quite well.

The second game was simply incredible.  Both teams managed to go 2 under par for the round so we decided to do a playoff.  We played holes 17, 1 and then 18 all from the long tees.  We also tied on all three.  After 5 hours of play and 39 holes we decided to end it as we could hear our collective stomachs demanding dinner.  A great day for sure.  Check out these scores!

Roundbrand Rankings 10/27/08

So there will be a Rankings post on Saturday as we will be wrapping up the first calendar year of Roundbrand play with the end of October.  There will also be some changes as we move forward to get a little more variety in our games that I will discuss more later this week.

As for now, let’s do another game in the dark over at Sea-Tac.  Tee time is 6:30PM again and make sure you have your LED light discs.  Just a reminder for some people, Jason M, it is very hard to see your LED light disc when the light is turned off.

Here are the latest Rankings.

Roundbrand Rankings 10/20/08

Guess what Roundbrand Regulars?  Just 12 days left in the first year of Roundbrand play.  It would appear that Jonathan has the championship wrapped up, but we may have some battles for other positions.  This week’s Leaderboard is below the fold.

I am planning on being at Sea-Tac tomorrow night at 6:30PM for a round of night Disc Golf.  Bring your LED Disc if you have one and let’s enjoy what is supposed to be the one clear night this week.

One other note of interest.  Jonathan has thrown some new photos up on his Folfing page at Flickr.  Check it out!

Roundbrand Results! 10/12/08

We had yet another close and well played round this past Sunday at Lakewood.  Only four stokes separated the top and bottom teams.  We had glorious weather to play in also which we all greatly appreciated.

The only real downside of this game was that we had seven players out which is easily the most cumbersome number when playing teams.  We divided up into three teams and all played together which was good for socializing, but it made for a slow round.

All told, there were a number of fine shots.  Plympton showed up and tossed a few sweet drives, especially on hole 4.  Jonathan had a great drive on 12 that might be the furthest I have seen yet on that hole.  I had drives on both 8 and 15 that should have led to birdies, but sadly did not.  Richard absolutely destroyed the back 9 with some amazing drives and second shots.  Both Linda and Cathy made some clutch putts to help their teams out too.

This one was decided on Hole 17 when Cathy and I failed to capitalize on her nice drive.  We bogeyed the hole to give Jonathan and Plympton the lead for good.  They sealed the deal by playing 18 flawlessly and walking away victorious.

Here are the scores.

Roundbrand Rankings – 10/8/08

This is post #2 of three today.  Make sure you check out the recap below this one.

Here are the updated Rankings a few days late.  Eric made the move of the week by passing up Vince.  John made a big move up in the Part-Timers.  Ethan solidified his new hold on 4th overall and could very well give Weaver a run for 3rd if he keeps playing the way he has lately.

Here is the new Leaderboard.

Roundbrand Results! – Bachelor Party Version

So we had six of us go play a round of Disc Golf last Saturday at Pier Park in north Portland.  We decided to split into two teams at the groom’s request.  Ethan decided Mike should wear the bowling ball and chain for all 18 holes and I must say what a champ and good sport he was.  He managed to play a good game wearing that thing and hit the shot of the day on top of it all.

First I would like to say what an amazing park this was.  It was very pretty, but the calling card is how well kept it is.  The course is long like Sea-Tac, but there are no brambles or underbrush at all.  There are trees everywhere that gave a nice canopy from the rain and  multiple elevation changes too.  The trees are all trimmed up to at least 40-50 feet high so branches are not blocking shot lines.  All said I would love to get down there and play this course again.

I would also like to say that as a group we played this course pretty well considering we had never seen it before.  Mike purchased a Star Destroyer as we entered the park and it proved to be a huge investment.  The game was all tied up with 5 holes to go before our team started to slip with a run of bogeys.  We got to hole 17 sitting 2 shots behind the groom’s team.  I managed what was easily my best drive of the day to get us within putting range for a possible birdie.  We were assuming a par for the opposition, but then Mike crushed all hopes of coming back.  He stepped up from 150′ away and tossed his new disc straight and hard.  It started it’s fade at the perfect spot and skipped off a hill, banked hard right as it traveled up and dropped into the basket for a birdie.

Awesome round!  Take a look at the scores.
