Roundbrand Results! 9/28/08 Acepot @ Lakewood

I have decided to write three separate recaps of our weekend tournament rounds.  So today I will recap our Acepot game.

Upon arriving at Lakewood I was bummed to see that there was a bike race going on.  It was taking up holes 8-11 which meant I would have to rework my plan for the course.  My hope had been to play the 9 holes with the most Ace possibility, but since the only hole any Roundbrand player had ever Aced was now off the board we had to improvise.

They had moved the basket on 18 off of the parking island so we decided to add that and then we decided to come back and play Hole 1 a second time.  So we had Holes 1-3, 5, short 6, 7, old 11, 18 and then 1 again.

It was sadly a meager showing as bridal showers, trips back east, work, house painting and hangovers took a lot of players out of the equation.  We did have the top Roundbrand Regulars there though, so we were sure to have a good game.

That was until we teed off on Hole 1.  All 5 of us went in to the trees.  Jonathan went out of bounds.  I took 4 putts to get into the stupid basket.  It was an ugly start to be sure.  By the time we got to Hole 5 everyone seemed to settle down and start making better shots.

After that we made our way over to the incredibly short tee pad to Hole 6.  Weaver was in the lead so he shot first.  He calmly tossed a backhand shot that curved smoothly to the right, bounced off of the ground and into the basket.

After much high fiving and hollering I informed him that the game was not over.  We all still had a chance to match his feat.  In fact, it was my turn.  All I remember thinking was that there was no reason to be conservative.  I took my Discraft Surge and went hard at the basket. It took the perfect fade at the last second as it hit the chains and stuck.  We had only the 2nd and 3rd Aces ever in Roundbrand play on back to back shots.

We played the rest of the round seeing Jonathan and Ethan net some birdies, but the Acepot was won.

Roundbrand Rankings 9/29/08

This is the final Rankings for September.  Only one more month to go before we reach a full year of competitive Roundbrand play.  You will notice that the six people who participated in yesterday’s Tournament received nice jumps up in their scores.  Ethan and Richard both made big moves.  I hope to recap our day either tomorrow or Wednesday.

The First Ever Roundbrand Day of Tournament Disc Golf

One week from today, Sunday the 28th of September, we will be playing three seperate Rounds of Disc Golf at Lakewood.  There will be money changing hands and Ranking points to be won.  If you want to pump up your Ranking you will want to get in on one or more of these Rounds.

Who can participate?  If you see your name anywhere on the Roundbrand Leaderboard below this post you are invited.  If you are a Regular you can invite a new player to join also.  Beyond that we would like to keep this to people who have been playing with us for the past year.

You said three Rounds?  Yes, the first is a singles 9-Hole Acepot. The second is a 9-Hole team round of best disc with 3 players per team.  The final round will be an 18-Hole Singles Round.

Do I have to play all three rounds?  No you do not.  You can play one, two or three of the events.  Play as much or as little as you want.

What does each Round cost and how do they pay out?  Buy-in is $5 of which $1 goes to administrative cost and the rest goes to the prize pot.  On the Acepot the entire pot goes to anyone to sink an ace.  If we get no ace we will award money back to 3rd and cash awards to 2nd and 1st in a 1:2 ratio based on total entry money.  If two players get an ace they split the pot.  Payout is the same for the 18 hole singles round based solely on finish.  For the doubles round 3rd place gets $1 back from their entry, 2nd place gets their money back and 1st gets the rest of the pot.

How will this affect my ranking?  Normal rounds score at 4pts for 1st, 3 points for 2nd, 2pts for 3rd and 1 pt for any finsh below that.  The Acepot Round will score 4, 3.5, 3, 2.5, 2, 1.5 and 1.  The Triples Round will score 5, 4.5, 4, 3.5, 3, 2.5, 2, 1.5 and 1.  The 18 Hole Singles Round will score 6, 5.5, 5, 4.5, 4, 3.5, 3, 2.5, 2, 1.5 and 1.

What time will each round start?  The Acepot start at 11am.  The Triples round will start between 12:30pm and 1pm depending on how quickly the Acepot goes.  The final round will then start around 3pm while allowing for a food break between games.

Let me know if you have any questions and let’s get as many players out there as possible.

Roundbrand Rankings – 9/21/08

Big news in this week’s Rankings.  Eric has played enough to join the Regulars.  Hopefully we can add someone else to the crew here in the near future.

Remember folks, we play year round here at Roundbrand.  Playing in rain and wind is a part of living in Seattle and we don’t let it stop us.

One last reminder that Night Disc Golf in the dark is coming soon.  Head down to Mando’s in Auburn and either get an LED Disc or find an LED light that you can place on the bottom of your disc.  If you go the latter route I suggest placing it on an Innova Champion Disc so the light can shine through the plastic.  Kara, Jason M and I all have the Blackjax LED Discs and I think you will find varied flight patterns from disc to disc.  Jason’s seems to be very stable while mine is understable.  I’m excited to give this a try.  Next dry evening I see coming up we may go for a round over at Sea-Tac.

No round this Sunday 9-21-08

With several regulars out and our regular courses set aside for tournaments I have chosen not to setup a round for this weekend.  However I would like to try and squeeze in a weekday round… maybe Thursday?  Text or email and let me know what you think.  Cheers :)

Roundbrand Results! 9/14/08

We had yet another incredibly competitive round on Sunday at Lakewood.  We had 7 players split into three teams and we almost had a 3 way tie.  Once again we failed to get anyone under par, but this was yet another incredibly consistent and solid round.

There were only two double bogeys on the day and the last one proved to be fatal.  Ethan and Kara went in to the final hole with a two stroke lead on both teams.  Their double bogey opened the door and Jonathan, Nani & Richard walked right in by getting par.  Weaver and I managed to both go out of bounds on our second shot giving us a bogey and taking away our chance to join in on a playoff.

Both teams parred the first playoff hole, but a bogey by Ethan and Kara took away the taste of victory on what was otherwise an incredible day.  By far they were the most consistent team on the day and Ethan had a round of putting that could only be called clutch.

Shots of the day were aplenty.  Jonathan had a drive on Hole 4 that was as close to the hole as I have ever seen.  Regrettably they were not able to finish the deal with a birdie.  However, Jonathan came back with an equally spectacular drive on Hole 5 and they did bury the birdie shot that time.  Possbly the most impressive shot was Jonathan’s drive on Hole 15.  He snaked his way past the trees and dropped his disc within 15 feet of the basket.  Once again they followed with a birdie that was crucial on the comeback to victory.

One more reminder to keep the 28th open for the first ever Roundbrand day of Tournament Disc Golf.  Players can join in for all 3 events or just for those that fit their wishes.

Here are the scores from Sunday.

Roundbrand Rankings 9/15/08

Here are the new Rankings for your perusal.  No movement in placement, but a few moves in terms of points.

I would like to also use this post to pimp our upcoming Roundbrand Tournament on September 28th at Lakewood.  This tournament is restricted to players who have played with the Roundbrand Crew before or are sponsored by a Roundbrand Regular.  The Tourney will begin in the AM with a 9 Hole Acepot Round.  Entry fee is $5.  If no Ace all prize money goes to the top 3 finishers.

The next part of the Tourney will be a 9 hole Teams game with three players per team.  Entry per player is $5.  Teams determined by current Rankings.

After the team round we will have an 18 hole Singles round.  This is also $5 for entry.  Both Tourneys will have a higher score value towards your Ranking as an added Bonus for participating.  Top 3 finishers each portion finish in the money.  Keep an eye out for more info.

Roundbrand Results! – 9/7/08

So we had 8 players show up for a lovely afternoon of Disc Golf at North Sea-Tac on Sunday.  As is always the case this course ate us up on the back 9.  After a fairly well played front 9 we all saw some ugly scores on the back.  All told this game was won by Cathy making some amazing 2nd shots on the front that gave us gimme putts.

Jonathan and Mikayla made a charge on the back 9 but were done in on Hole 17 by a wall of disc eating trees.  Shot of the day may well have been Linda’s putt on the very first hole.  Jonathan made some amazingly long drives on the back 9 also that were very impressive.

Here are the scores.

Roundbrand Rankings 9/8/08

Here is the latest edition of the Rankings.  I don’t think we saw any movement this week.  Ethan almost passed Kara back until yesterday’s Round.  More on that tomorrow.

I’ve mentioned this before, but I will once more.  I highly recommend people get out and buy an LED Disc for playing this fall/winter.  We are losing sunlight way too early for me to plan any more weekday games until I get one.  My plan is to go a shopping sometime in the next week or so.

Here is the Leaderboard.
