Quick schedule for all you folks itching for another game of Disc Golf. This Sunday will be our first Round for the month of May. Let’s go get a nice warm day at Sea-Tac. Tee time will be 2PM. I think it is time for someone to finish within 10 strokes of par at this giant course.

Roundbrad Results! 4/27/08 @ Lakewood
Well it happened again, but this time at Lakewood. We had another team go under par for the day. Not the 3 under that Jonathan and Dean had, but seeing as Lakewood is a bit longer than White River, a 2 under was very impressive. Weaver and Kara played a flawless front 9 and then an equally impressive back 9. I must say the Roundbrand Regulars are on a roll!
My team was matched with the winners for the back 9 and Weaver was throwing very long and very straight all day. As for shot of the day? I really couldn’t come up with one. This was a day of near misses. Many of the Birdies you will see on the Scorecard were shots that came within 5′ of being Hole in Ones. I am biased, but the long Birdie shot by Cathy on Hole #1 really seemed to get our team on a roll. We carried it through the Front 9 before playing a mortal Back 9.
Jonathan and Richard scorched the Back 9 to get a respectable 6 over while Ethan and Nani also turned it up on the Back to get a solid 66 for the round. All told we at least had the warm weather to thank because it was wet and windy.
Thanks again to everyone for a great turnout! Here are the scores and see you next week!
Roundbrand Rankings – 4/28/08
We are posting our second Ranking in what will be a weekly thing here at Roundbrand. You will see there was some movement from last week in both position and scores. Due to two Rounds played this past week Cathy is now one round played away from joining the Regulars while Richard is only two away. It will be nice to expand the membership there.
Jonathan and I added a twist on this system inspired by events over the weekend. On Saturday Ethan, Vince, Plympton and me played a round at Sea-Tac. The question came up about whether or not the finish should affect the Rankings. What we decided is that even if a Round of Disc Golf is played while not being a pre-scheduled Roundbrand Round it can affect the Rankings. However, there is a stipulation. There must be a minimum of three Regulars playing in that round. Since Vince and Mikey P have not played enough to be Regulars my 3 stroke victory over Ethan earned me no points this time.
What I will ask is that if any rounds get played that would qualify, and I am not there, please submit the scores to me so I can put it in the Rankings. As I said last week, please add any feedback you may have so we can refine this as needed.
Here is the Leaderboard. Kara moved ahead of Nani this week. Jonathan got his 10th victory. Weaver played two Rounds and kept his amazing Score at 3.5! Continue reading
Future Scheduling Info
I just wanted to create a post to let you all in on my plans for Roundbrand this Spring and Summer.
As of the 17th of this month the weekly Thursday night Random Doubles at Lakewood have started for 2008. They currently are starting at 5:30PM with plans to move that back when the days lengthen. Sign up is at 5:25PM. I am probably not going to schedule many more mid-week rounds because I want to start participating in this event. I would encourage any of you who want to learn by facing top players to come and join me.
As I mentioned above I am not sure how many more mid-week rounds I will schedule. There will be some, but I’m not sure yet what day I will target. I do however plan on trying something different this year and that is a breakfast round. These will not be posted games because for me the idea is to once a week start my day with some Disc Golf without it being a structured round. Beginning on Tuesday, May 20th at 5AM I will be playing Tuesday Morning Folf at North Sea-Tac. Crazy? Maybe. We’ll see how well this works. The plan is to power through as many holes as possible by 7AM and then off to work. If you are interested in doing this I would suggest checking in with me on Monday night to see if I am still doing it. The goal is to do this until July 15th when the sunrise will begin coming too late.
Feel free to post any questions you may have.
Roundbrand Results! 4/23/08 @ North Sea-Tac
We had seven of us show up Wednesday night for a round of Disc Golf at North Sea-Tac. Great showing for a weeknight. Since we were one shy of having enough to do four teams we split three ways and all played together. Because of that we only made it through Holes 1-4 and then 10-18 before the sun went down.
I was trying to figure out what I should call the shot of the day and all I could think of was Jonathan drilling the basket twice from over 100′ but not getting it to drop. He is deadly with his Tee-Bird from Mid-Range. He gets such a straight line with it that is amazing to watch. It was also very fun to see both Cathy and Richard improving in front of our eyes. They seem to be getting the hang of it rather quickly. I can’t wait to see where they are at in a couple more weeks.
One final note on this round is that Jonathan got his 10th Victory in our Official Roundbrand competitions. No one is even close to that number. Here are the scores. Continue reading

Disc Golf Round 4/27/08 @ Lakewood
Roundbrand Results! 4/20/08 @ Lakewood
Time for a change to the way we look at our recently played rounds. The posts will no longer be called Recaps. Boring. They will now be called Results!
In the last three weeks we have seen a day that brought us a 40+ footer from Nani and also a 140+ foot birdie from Jason. Then the next week we watched as two teams went under par. One in each of two successive games played that day. TWICE in one day and after never happening for almost a year! Both teams just so happened to have Jonathan in them, with Dean and Cathy taking turns being awesome. Congrats to all of you.
But then this week the Roundbrand Regulars got their first HOLE IN ONE!!! Well actually Kara did it! Starting the entire group back up on the Back 9, Kara calmly tossed the perfectly arcing sidearm shot. After releasing her Discraft XS Elite Z off the 10th Tee Box I have no idea what was going through Kara’s mind. I know what I was thinking though, and that was that it had a chance. It turned left as it went down the hill, and then it started to fade back right as it went out of sight. All we had to tell us was the sound of chains rattling. Jonathan ran down the hill and confirmed it. Kara had dropped in a Hole In One into this basket.
Awesome stuff! We played our first round dictated by the official Rankings, which you can see a couple of posts down. The day was ruled by Ethan and Kara and it helped both of them gain ground in the standings. Kara sliced the distance between her and Nani in half, and Ethan jumped over Jonathan to take 3rd. Overall an very well played round, top to bottom, yet again. All four teams finished in the 60′s! Enjoy the scores!
Disc Golf Round 4/23/08 @ North Sea-Tac
Hey folks let’s get in a mid-week round of Disc Golf tomorrow. Tee time is 6PM at North Sea-Tac. We will need to move quick to avoid the dark. Hopefully we do not freeze in this crappy Spring weather either. See you tomorrow!
Debut – Roundbrand Rankings
So I had some free time on my hands while Kara was sleeping in and I thought it would be interesting to look at where people tend to finish in our official rounds of Disc Golf. We officially began postings scores in our Recaps back in the middle of November. Granted, there were many rounds played between April and early November that were never recorded, but we do have over 20 rounds of data to work with.
What I was thinking is that we tend to play in teams during our Roundbrand games and that a ranking system could help us determine how to set our teams up. We used this system for the first time yesterday and we actually saw movement in the rankings based on yesterday’s results. A Recap of yesterday’s round will be coming soon, but for now here are some tidbits of info from my work, the methodology behind the scoring and the first published Ranking.
Rankings will be published once a week from here on out. They are based on a 1st Place finish getting 4 points, 2nd Place gets 3 points, 3rd Place gets 2 points and any finish below 3rd gets 1 point. A person then gets a Score based on the Sum of their points divided by the number of Roundbrand Rounds they have participated in. I am splitting the Rankings into two groups of people. The first group, labeled Regulars, is people who have participated in at least 25% of the rounds we have scored. The second group, labeled Part-Timers is people who have been involved in less than 25%. Each week I will show the players current Score followed by what their Score was the previous week and then the number of times their team finished 1st. This weeks Rankings have yesterday’s round included in the score.
Tidbits: Weaver has never finished below 3rd. Ethan and I have only finished below 3rd once each. No one is close to Jonathan with nine 1st Place finishes. I expect this to self correct, but there is no way Kara should be ranked 8th out of 9 regular players. Especially since she recorded the 1st ever Roundbrand Hole in One Sunday! Enjoy and feel free to give feedback on possible changes to my method.
