Game Canceled – March 30th – Game Canceled

Due to weather conditions I am going to cancel tomorrows game. It is looking rather cold and in some cases snowy.

What was to be a canceled game, actually, turned out to be a well played round.  Not one team shot over 67!  I am sure Jeff will have us a recap very soon.  Thanks to those of you who made it out and soaked up some sunshine with us.

Disc Golf Recap – 3/23/08 @ White River

Wet? Check. Cold? Check. Birthday boy wins? Check. Well played round? Check. Birdies and near holes in one? Check. Renewed appreciation for warm dry clothing? Check. Great Birthday dinner after the round? Check. Great Birthday dessert? Check. Puking during dinner? Check. Tears shed? Check.

Jonathan was given the option of who he wanted as a teammate as we prepared to play his Birthday round at White River. He chose wisely when he picked Kara. If not for a couple misses they would have played an even par round. Dad and I had an amazing run of pars on the first ten holes. If not for running out of gas on the last two holes we would have been on the heels of the winners. Ethan and Nani braved it out for the whole round and put up a great score too. If not for getting soaked to the bone this would have been our best day ever.

Congrats to Jonathan and Kara on the awesome 18 and one last Happy Birthday to my big bro.

Here are the scores and by the way, snow in the last week of March is dumb.

Disc Golf at Lakewood Park : March 30th 2008 : 13:00 hours

Jeff decided to take a break from scheduling duties so I (Jonathan) am filling in.  I thought it would be nice to get out on what should be a nice Sunday and play Lakewood Park.  Let’s plan on meeting at the first hole at 1 PM for tee-off.  I am looking forward to a post birthday game and kick ya’lls butts.  Let’s see if my vintage age makes me a better player ;) or as bitter as vinegar (when I am stomped).  Have a great week… see you soon.

Seattle Pro Parks Levy Oversight Committee – March 24, 2008

Sitting and listening to the Seattle Pro Parks Levy Oversight Committee discuss and sometimes strongly disagree over how the nearly 5 million (4.9) dollars should be spent can be frustrating. Last night at the Seattle Pro Parks Levy Oversight Committee meeting at the Denny Park building I sat and observed first hand just how the current Mayor of Seattle can set a tailspin in motion even with the best of intentions. Not to say that the Mayor is directly responsible for the sideways in a snowstorm maneuver the committee is undertaking but to say that his inability to get directly involved is bewildering.

Parks are one of the essential public planning projects that pull community together, build a future for our children and enhance the world we live in. With the rate of green space depleting and the density of Seattle population growing these green spaces/parks are needed to ensure a healthy balanced metropolitan environment. I have called for my fellow disc golfers to assist me in attending these meetings, if for no other reason than showing the City of Seattle that we care.

For now, it appears that the Seattle Pro Parks Levy Oversight Committee will be drafting a letter to Mayor Greg Nickels.  The hope is that the Mayor will get involved and make a hard line stance, from his office and not delegated, on what the criteria will be for the division of funds from the Levy.

If you are a community group and or you just want to get involved please join me at the up coming Seattle Pro Parks Levy Oversight Committee meeting on April 28th, 2008 at the 100 Dexter Denny Parks Building.

Until then – play disc golf

Disc Golf Round – 3/23/08 @ White River

This will also be short and sweet like this week’s recap. Here is the deal folks. Jonathan Chicquette, the founder of our group and website, has a Birthday that needs to be celebrated. We will be playing a round at the White River Course at 1PM this Sunday to celebrate his turning something over 35. Ask him, I cannot quite remember.

Let’s get out and have some fun chasing the sun and playing Disc Golf!

Disc Golf Recap – 3/16/18 @ North Sea-Tac

I have had zero free time this week folks, so this will be short and sweet.

We had a great showing last weekend. Eleven people showed up for a round on a cool and overcast Sunday. We had two new players in Cathy and Jason, and a rare showing by Mike Plympton was enjoyed by all. Overall, it was a fun round even if there was some cheating going on.

Regrettably Mom and Dad had to leave early after 15 holes. Jason should have left early, but he did stick it out through all 18 even though he was very late for a family function. All told, the three person team won out on a day where we were all just happy to stay dry.

Here are the scores.

Disc Golf Recap – 3/9/08 @ Lakewood

Well we were pleased once again to see the weatherman be wrong. It was a very nice day out and we had eight of us show up to play a great round at Lakewood. Ethan has not been out for a while due to grad school keeping him so busy. This round was one for knocking off the rust for him. Nani was only able to hang for 7 holes because of a meeting she had to run to, but she helped her team out while she was there. Dad tried to get a 10 stroke Handicap for Mom and him, but as you can see by the scores below, that was not needed.

Highlights of the day had to be seeing both Mom and Dad getting nice length on their drives. Mom was throwing so smooth and easy it didn’t even look like she was trying. Mikayla had some nice throws herself, but it was some clutch long putts that were the most impressive from her. I made the shot of my life on the 13th Hole. My drive went deep but OB. They moved the hole forward recently and next to the tree leaving me with an 80′ uphill shot and the basket sitting on the opposite side of the tree. I decided to use my Aerobie Sharpshooter #2. Yeah, not a great Disc, but when it loses speed it fades very hard making it the perfect play for where I was. I got my shot long and high enough and it broke hard left around the tree and in the basket to save par. I admit I did a little dance.

Jonathan was the winner once again. Bow down, blah, blah, blah. Here are the scores.
