Seattle Parks & Recreation – Pro Parks Levy Oversight Committee

A few months ago I posted a brief blog, attempting to raise local awareness about Seattle’s intentions regarding several orphaned parks and green areas in the greater Seattle area. As a Seattleite, and avid disc golfer, I saw fit to bring you all up-to-date.

The Pro Parks Levy Oversight Committee was to meet this past Continue reading

Disc Golf Recap – 1/20/08 North Sea-Tac

Well, this past weekend was a great one to get out and freeze your hands on the Disc Golf course. Saturday Kara and I played a breakfast round at North Sea-Tac. I shot an 80 and Kara an 84. I ran some errands and then went to Lakewood to meet up with Mom, Dad, Bro and our friend Ron Heaps. I played a 62 there which was very solid for me.

Sunday it was the Chicquette clan again at North Sea-Tac for our official round. Kara stayed home to watch football, Ethan and Nani were in Leavenworth and Weaver was busy. So it was me, Jonathan, Mom and Dad yet again. We ran into Brent and Russell on the first tee, but they played on without us. Dad and teamed to shoot a solid 77 while Jonathan and Mom bagged an 86. By the end of the day I was worn out from all the holes played over the weekend. All told though, I will take this cold and dry stuff any day over cold and wet.

Any suggestions for where we should play next weekend?

Disc Golf Recap – 1/13/08 @ Auburn Game Farm

What a great day for Disc Golf that was yesterday. We had the pleasure of having three new players for our round at Auburn Game Farm which gave us a large group. Our parents brought their neighbor Alan out for the first time and I also invited Brent who I see at both Lakewood and North Sea-Tac all the time. Brent is a really good player and it is fun to watch him shoot. He also brought Russell along with him for the round. Russell is another talented player that I have seen out a few times. He has been playing for 18 years by his count which makes him worth watching for tips and tricks.

Yesterday was also a day for celebration as Continue reading

Round two at Lakewood Park – Weaver & Jonathan

By the time our group had finished up playing Mineral Springs Park the sky was beautiful and the sun was out. Mike and I chose to head over to Lakewood Park in West Seattle (White Center area) to take advantage of the perfect disc golf weather. The front nine went quick and we thought we might even finish the course with the sun still in the sky. But that just did not happen. It got dark quick and we played Continue reading

Disc Golf Recap – 1/6/08

Well, that was one strange round of Disc Golf yesterday. Ethan hurt his arm Saturday night and it took him out for most of the round. He tried to throw lefty, but ambidexterity is not his thing. Then on the last hole Nani slipped on a wet log and fell hard. Thankfully she was doing fine afterwards. Our day started out wet, windy and cold. Thankfully it turned into a nicer day and no one went home soaking wet.

Mineral Springs is an odd course. It was a first time visit for Nani, Ethan and Weaver. It did not grab rave reviews to say the least. This course is really just a 9 hole that has different tee pads and a few different baskets to make it 18 holes. It is tight, short and heavily wooded. That means that the long throwers lose most of their advantage. It also tends to make the back 9 a bit boring since you feel like you just hit the repeat button. All in all it was an okay day, but Weaver and Jonathan were so unsatisfied that they apparently went and managed to do all 18 at Lakewood.

On to the scores.

Next Disc Golf Round – Sunday 1/6/08

I am making an executive decision to start being a bit more creative in terms of location with our upcoming rounds. Unless the Seahawks get rolling in the playoffs I do not expect much football interfering with our schedule until the Super Bowl. It has been almost 4 months since we have been up to Mineral Springs for a round of Disc Golf, so I think it is time to go back. This Sunday we will tee it up at 12:30PM. Wear some dry clothes because the weather looks rough for the next few days.

See you all on Sunday!
