Next Round Sunday 12/2

Hello Folfers! Let’s do it all over again this week at Lakewood. Tee time will be 2PM once again also. Weather reports are ominous, but I am holding out hope for more luck in that regard.

I have been avoiding North Sea-Tac on days we must tee off after noon because of the shortened days. For those who have played it you know it takes a while to get through that course. Only a few more weeks and the days will start getting longer. I have already started dreaming of being able to play weeknight rounds after work again, but for now reality is a cold stiff wind that knocks my disc into the bushes.

Lakewood 11/25/07 – Recap

We had yet another gorgeous day for Folfing on Sunday. Our luck has been incredible so far this fall. Kara and Nani joined us for the first 6 holes before bailing out, so they are not in the recap. Ethan was the long driver of the day. He actually tossed his drive on 15 past the hole and into the end of the pond. This one was tied after 12 holes, but bogies on 13 and 16 were the undoing for Jonathan, Dad & Mom.

Terrace Creek Park Recap

The reviews of this park were mixed. For me, I enjoyed it on most levels but it is very easy to lose a disc or get scratched up. That makes it alot like North Sea-Tac. It also was alot like Lake Fenwick in terms of the overgrown nature of the park. All of that being said the elevation changes were very interesting. We took forever to play the course though. It was so dark by the time we made it to hole 17 that Dad’s Valkyrie was lost in the brush. I received a nasty bruise and about 40 scratches looking for it.

On to the Recap. We ended up with none of the newbies showing up. What we had were 7 regulars and Mike Plympton came along for his third round ever. We put Plympton with Mike Weaver and of course they came out on top. However, Dad and I pushed them hard on the back 9. If not for us playing in the dark on the last 2 holes we would have been much closer. Plympton made a sweet putt on 10 to give the Mikes the only Birdie of the day. Dad had a sweet putt on 13 around a tree to save par that was the shot of the day from my perspective.

Next Rounds Friday 11/23 & Sunday 11/25

New Course, new players and all kinds of fun. We will tee off at Terrace Creek (map)in Mountlake Terrace at 1:30PM this Friday. We are expecting a few newcomers this outing so bring extra discs for the newbies to use. So far the weather looks like it will continue to be our friend.

On Sunday we return to Lakewood for a 2PM tee time. Hopefully we can get Weaver out and let him and Jonathan beat each other up with their mile long drives.

Dean & Jonathan – 11/8 Lakewood Recap

What a great day at Lakewood Park. The small group of five Linda, Dean, Jonathan, Jeff and Mikayla broke up into two groups. Team one; Linda, Jeff and Mikayla. Team two; Dean & Jonathan. Below are the scores for team two. My Beast was the key that put our team ahead with some amazingly long shots. I had given my Sidewinder a try or two with less success. With a little practice I can see it being useful as an escape from behind obstacles as it can truly thread the needle. On hole nine it was all Dean with an amazing t-shot that put us five feet from the basket.

Jeff’s Addendum:

This one was won on the Front 9. Playing with almost the exact same teams as we did two weeks ago at Lakewood, this was over early. Jonathan was ridiculously long off of the tee with his new Beast. Last time Jonathan and Dad also had John Neuharth on their team and only came away with a one stroke victory. This time a few missed putts on the Front 9 and there was no recovery for us. The 32 on the Back 9 was an awesome accomplishment and we sunk every putt that came our way. I also found a Champion Orc that is in great shape. Not sure if it will make its way into my bag for good, but I will give it a go.

The Sidewinder & the Beast – 2 New Discs

I have been looking for the perfect distance driver for a while. I really like my current line-up but really wanted to find that dare-to-be-great disc that would fly flat and fast. A perfect long-drive-killer for t-shots like the #12 at Lakewood. What I found were two INNOVA distance drivers. The first is a bright salmon colored Champion Sidewinder weighing it at 165gm & the second is a green and purple Champion Beast weighing in at 168gm. The aerodynamics on the Beast are promising with my current t-shot style. I am looking forward to Lakewood this weekend to give them both a spin.

Next Round – Sunday 11/18/07

Hello Folfing Friends! We are going to play another early round at Lakewood this Sunday. Tee off at 10:30AM.

For advanced warning, I think we will try to play two rounds next week. Times to be determined, but I think we are going to try a new course next Friday, which is the day after Thanksgiving. We will be heading north to test the Terrace Creek course in Mountlake Terrace. We will most likely follow up with our typical Sunday round at either North Sea-Tac or Lakewood.

Sunday 11/11/07 Recap

Six of us showed up for a round of Folf and we were treated to a dry round. It was very windy however, which messed with a lot of shots. I wish I could have blamed the wind on my terrible putting, but that would be unfair.

Jonathan had the putt of the day sinking a deep 30+ footer on 16. Vince showed off his ambidextrous skills by tossing a beautiful lefty shot on 6 that dropped right next to the hole from over 100ft away. Other than that, the ridiculously long and straight tee shots from Weaver and the putting from Mom won the day.

Team: Vince Velie & Jonathan Chicquette
Front 9 – 38 / Back 9 – 44 / Total – 82

Team: John Neuharth & Jeff Chicquette
Front 9 – 39 / Back 9 – 45 / Total – 84

Ooooh, I want this Disc!

Check this thing out. Apparently the PDGA approved it and then changed their mind three days later. It would be perfect for my overhand putt, and the notches would be great at grabbing the chains. Illegal, yes. But why would I let that stop me?

Turbo Putter!
